There are several cottages on the west banks of the Barron River, opposite the Rod & Gun. They were built by fishing guides from Chokoloskee to be closer to their clients. In the 1950’s they were mainly occupied by Charley Boggess and his family, Charley was one of the best fishing guides in the area. His children had to row to school everyday against the wind and currents, paddling hard against the surf to make it to the other side of the river, known as Everglades City.
